Using point and click to move a piece is also very easy.
You simply highlight the move you wish to make by moving the mouse over either the start square or the target square; once the move is highlighted, you click and then release the mouse, and the piece moves automatically to complete the move!
A square is said to be highlighted if it is drawn with a border along its outer edge. Whenever exactly two squares are highlighted, then a move is possible between these two squares.
For example, suppose that you want to move your king-side pawn forward two squares on your first move.
The easiest way to do this is to move the mouse over the target square, as shown in the diagram. As there is only one move possible on the board involving this square, namely the pawn moving forward two moves, then the program automatically highlights both squares, and all you have to do is click and release the mouse in order to play the move. Very simple!
You can also move the pawn forward by moving the mouse over the pawn itself. However, in this case, there are two possible moves involving the pawn; it can be moved either one square forward, or two squares forward.
You can still do the move using point and click, but this time it depends on which part of the pawn square the mouse is over.
If you move the mouse near the top of the square, as shown in the diagram, then the square two rows forward will be highlighted. If that is the square to which you want to move the pawn, you just click and release the mouse, and the pawn will move there automatically.
If you move the mouse a little downwards, towards the center of the pawn, then the highlighted square will change to the square one row forward. You can then click and release the mouse to move the pawn one square forward.
If you move the mouse over the center of the pawn, then all squares that the pawn can move to will be highlighted. In this case, as there are two possible move, it will not be possible to move the pawn by point and click. You can, however, still click on the piece and move it using drag and drop to the required target square, or you can move the mouse forwards until the required target square is highlighted.
